Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, Inc. (NYSE: DTG – News) today announced the acquisition of the Thrifty Car Rental franchise operations in Vermont.
The transaction, effective April 1, includes an off airport rental and parking location serving Burlington International Airport and a local market store. Four other offices in Montpelier/Barre, Waterbury and White River Junction with service to Lebanon Municipal Airport, as well as an office at the University of Vermont providing pre-arranged rentals, are also included. The acquisition will add approximately 400 vehicles to the company’s corporate fleet.
The franchise was sold by Tamarack Services of Vermont, Inc. owned by Lowell (Chip) Spillane, Jr. and wife, Shelley Spillane. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
“We continue to make significant progress in our long term strategy to operate both brands as corporate stores in larger U.S. airport markets and other key leisure destinations,” said Jay Foley, senior executive vice president for corporate operations. “During 2006 we acquired the operations of 12 Dollar and Thrifty U.S. franchises, representing 16 cities and 6,000 vehicles. So far this year, we have acquired four franchises with operations in eight cities and 3,500 vehicles. We expect to continue acquiring key franchises on an opportunistic basis for the balance of 2007.”
