Lenny’s Sub Shop to Hold Franchise Opportunity Day in Memphis, Tennessee

Sub Sandwich Franchise Focuses on Recruiting Franchisees for Nationwide Expansion

Lenny’s Franchisor, LLC, franchisor of Lenny’s Sub Shops, today announced that the Memphis-based franchise company will host its first Lenny’s Sub Shop Franchise Opportunity Day on April 21, 2007 in Memphis, Tennessee. As Lenny’s expands nationally, the company is pursuing qualified franchisees to take the restaurant concept to exciting markets across the country.

“We are looking for people who want to own their own business and be their own boss, as well as those who just want to be an investor in a franchisee group,” said George Alvord, Lenny’s chief executive officer. “With Lenny’s, you can be a part of a proven concept while choosing where you want to live.”

Lenny’s Sub Shop Franchise Opportunity Day will feature an overview of the concept, average start-up costs, market availability, and discussion on the high level of support that the corporate office provides. In addition, Len Moore, founder of Lenny’s Sub Shop and a current Lenny’s franchisee in Houston, will be a featured speaker on the business he started and the growth that Lenny’s has experienced.

Len Moore and his wife Sheila opened the original Lenny’s Sub Shop, a genuine Philadelphia-style sub shop with fresh baked bread and the finest quality deli meat and cheese, in a Memphis suburb in 1998. Alvord and private investors acquired ownership of the company from Moore in 2004.

Since then, Lenny’s has begun to grow out of its backyard in the Southeast region and has opened restaurants as far west as Las Vegas, Nevada and as far north as Jackson, Michigan. More restaurants are scheduled to open this summer in Sacramento, California, Albuquerque, New Mexico and Detroit, Michigan, among other markets. The franchisees that have taken the Lenny’s concepts to new regions have seen tremendous success despite the lack of brand awareness and distance from Lenny’s home market of Memphis.

“Some of our top performing restaurants are in markets hundreds of miles from Memphis,” said Alvord. “We have proven that Lenny’s is not just a southeastern concept but a national brand that has already been embraced in the north and out west. We’ve seen that everybody loves Lenny’s, no matter what region you are in.”

Lenny’s chose to host its first Franchise Opportunity Day in Memphis to take advantage of the brand awareness and love for the product that is in this market. However, with Memphis already having 29 Lenny’s Sub Shops in the greater area, Alvord is banking on local people with an interest in the franchise wanting to open their own Lenny’s in new markets across the country.

“We’ve already seen this phenomenon happen in the past. Local Memphians that love Lenny’s want to take it back to their hometown or to a market where they have family and friends or simply like to visit,” said Alvord. “Our franchisees in Charlotte and Asheville, North Carolina, as well as in Springfield, Missouri and South Florida, all chose to move to a new location, and take Lenny’s with them.”

Current hot markets for the brand include Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky; Phoenix, Arizona; Richmond, Virginia; Atlanta, Georgia; Chicago, Illinois; Columbus and Cincinnati, Ohio and Jacksonville and Tallahassee, Florida, although the franchise company says the sky is the limit in terms of growth locations.

“The great thing about joining Lenny’s right now is that you can get in on the ground floor with a hot, growing company that has seen an unbelievable success rate in many markets,” said Alvord.

Recently, Lenny’s has opened several restaurants in new markets, including Jackson, MI, Asheville, NC and Overland Park, KS. In addition they have sold over 700 franchises across the country. Lenny’s is scheduled to open hundreds of restaurants in the next few years.
